CBC News at 6

How might you give a community a chance to be heard? By allowing them to share their own stories.
This was the approach taken by SMAK.- Vancouver, a conversation agency, in collaboration with CBC Vancouver to bring community news closer to the source. The initiative, “What’s Your Story,” involves a mobile sound booth traveling around different communities in British Columbia to capture local news ideas. Users were given a chance to pitch community news ideas and have a chance to have their story featured on CBC Vancouver News at 6.

We set out to create a unique and attractive piece centred around the CBC logo. We started by using a balance of dynamically arranged typography by highlighting the names of well-known communities in lower mainland British Columbia. The intent was to blend the names with the CBC brand on the surface of the booth. The result: a captivating community tag cloud graphic harmoniously blended with the iconic CBC branding. It worked out to be an elegant execution of typography visually balanced with the strong graphical CBC logo. As an added touch, CBC brand ambassadors got some cool “What’s Your Story” Tees.
